🎾 Photographing the W75 Carby Tennis Tournament in Quinta do Lago

This week I had the pleasure of being back at The Campus in Quinta do Lago to photograph the W75 Carby Tennis Tournament — and it felt great to return. It’s been over three years since I last worked at The Campus, and since moving back to Portugal, this was my first time shooting there again.

From the moment I arrived, I was reminded why The Campus is such a special place — world-class facilities, great energy, and the perfect setting for sports photography. The sun has been shining all week in the Algarve, the courts were buzzing with action, and the level of tennis was top class.

📸 Shooting the Action

For this event, I worked with my trusted Canon 1DX Mark II paired with a 400mm f/2.8 lens, and the Canon R6 Mark II with a 70–200mm f/2.8. The combination gave me the flexibility to capture both tight, high-speed action and more environmental shots that show the beautiful setting around the courts. Since my 1DX mark III will need service, the mark II did an excellent job and it was a great reminder that it is still an amazing camera.

Along with the usual action shots — serves, volleys, forehands, and the intense rallies — I also took the opportunity to do some panning shots, bringing motion and energy into the frames. The bright Algarve light made for crisp colors and sharp details, and I couldn’t have asked for better shooting conditions.

☀️ Great Atmosphere and People

I really appreciate how well I was received at The Campus. It’s always a pleasure to work in an environment that values both the athletes and the visuals that help tell their stories.

📍 Why I Love Shooting at The Campus

The Campus isn’t just a sports venue — it’s a place where professional athletes, passionate amateurs, and sports lovers come together. Whether it’s tennis, cycling, swimming, or football, there’s always something happening, and it’s the perfect location for capturing professional sports imagery here in the Algarve.
