PadelBlu Albufeira’s 1-Year Anniversary Tournament

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to cover an exciting milestone event at one of the Algarve’s growing padel hubs — a full-day tournament celebrating one year since opening. From early morning through to the final matches, the courts were alive with energy, competition, and a strong sense of community.

Full focus on the ball playing padel

With matches running simultaneously across six courts, the day was a true test of endurance—not just for the players, but for me as a photographer. Padel is a fast-paced sport that demands precision timing behind the lens. One of the biggest challenges is capturing that perfect moment: the split second where the ball, the player, and the intensity of the rally all come together in a single frame. Anticipation is everything. Reading the game, predicting movement, and staying one step ahead allows me to consistently capture those dynamic action shots that define the sport.

Throughout the day, I moved constantly between courts, working different angles and perspectives to ensure every player and match was documented. From powerful smashes at the net to defensive plays off the glass, each moment tells a story—and my goal is always to preserve that story in a way that players can relive long after the match is over.

This event was particularly special for me, as it marked my first time photographing padel in Portugal since moving here last year. Prior to that, I spent three years in Monterrey, Mexico, where I covered numerous padel tournaments and developed a deep understanding of the sport’s rhythm and visual appeal. Bringing that experience to the Algarve feels like a natural next step, especially as padel continues to grow rapidly across the region.

With more clubs opening and more players—both local and visiting—getting involved, there’s a huge opportunity to elevate how the sport is documented and shared. Whether it’s tournaments, club events, or casual matches among friends, professional photography adds value by capturing the intensity, skill, and enjoyment that make padel so addictive.

If you’re a padel club looking to showcase your events, or a group of players visiting the Algarve who want to capture your time on court, I’d love to work with you. Padel is more than just a game—it’s an experience—and great photography ensures those moments last.
